The Davidson County,North Carolina Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect who fled after being arrested during a driver’s license checkpoint in southern Davidson County,North Carolina. Around noon Wednesday on Farmer Road, tactical officers were conducting the checkpoint when a person came through driving a Chevrolet Suburban with a trailer and a four-wheeler. Davidson County,North Carolina Sheriff David Grice said deputies noticed a factory lock was missing from the trailer. Officers also detained the individual for not having his trailer properly registered. Grice said deputies found a welding tank with a color around the valve that looked to be anhydrous ammonia, a chemical used to make methamphetamine. Deputies then handcuffed the individual, and during the course of the investigation of the truck and trailer, the suspect broke free. Officers tracked the suspect in the woods for about 1 1/2 miles. Grice said he knows who the individual is, and his office has warrants, however, the suspect’s identity is not being released. As of Thursday afternoon, the suspect has yet to be caught. The vehicle was impounded, and agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation’s Clandestine Lab were at the county impound lot Thursday examining it. |
