 Washinton D.C. Mayor Marion Barry has said Xanax was among the drugs he was addicted to a decade ago. Illegal possesion of Xanax is a felony and carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, and a $5,000 fine.
The 1990 to 1998 National Institute of Drug Abuse statistics show that the number of Americans who began to misuse sedatives nearly doubled, while abuse of pain relievers rose 180% during this time period.
Xanax is commonly misused to create an alcohol-like high, with feelings of euphoria and increased sociability. |

TACOMA,Washington -- A state probation officer accused of selling methamphetamine pleaded not guilty to unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. Thirty-four-year-old Cheryl Lyn Cantrell was released on bail after her plea in court Tuesday in Tacoma,Washington. She was arrested Friday at a Department of Corrections office in Puyallup,Washington. The department says she was in a probationary period when she was arrested and no long works for the state. |
